BIOGRAPHY

Marcus McSorley is a London based actor & writer. Born in Surrey, Marcus is the son of former British javelin champion, John McSorley, and Australian artist and writer, Julie McSorley. During his formative years the McSorley family located to Brisbane, Australia, where Marcus developed a passion for Film and Theatre. Encouraged by his high school Drama teacher, he undertook a three year acting degree at the prestigious Australian drama school, QUT, where his training focused on the Stanislaski 'Method' and the 'Eric Morris System' of Acting.

During this period Marcus' acting was championed by the late Australian actor and writer, Bille Brown. Bille's illustrious career has included directing the John Cleese final stage show, commissioned writing for the RSC, and a variety of major acting roles such as The Chronicles of Narnia, Oscar & Lucinda, and The Man Who Sued God. After seeing Marcus in a number of performances, Bille wrote:

I was thrilled by the simplicity and truthfulness of this gifted young actor, uncluttered by drama student’s performance but entrusted with thought and precise emotional weight. The actors internalized energy. He has stage presence and the camera reads him. I recall his performance as the boy prostitute in play about working class kids as melancholy and strangely sexy. Another time, there was his cold watchful policeman with a sneer of irony in a Chekov short story. There was also the Puritan in A Light Shines in Buckinghamshire, almost mad with his zealotry, childlike and oddly beautiful in his faith in the coming victory of Righteousness. From this sample of his parts you can see a physical actor but with a mind and a special understanding of the power of language- a rare quality in his generation.

Following his graduation in 2005, Marcus moved to London. He continues to build a diverse list of stage & screen credits, including Macbeth at the National theatre of Luxembourg, and the TV series, Midsomer Murders. He has taken leading roles such as Earnest Worthing, in The Importance of Being Earnest, and Henry Baskerville, in The Hound of the Baskervilles at Greenwich Theatre, London. Marcus has also appeared in various commercials for brands such as Heineken and Pepsi, and was selected by Sony Music as lead male, opposite Portuguese Golden Globe & MTV award winner, Aurea, for her music video, The Only Thing That I Wanted.

Marcus has also co-authored a novel based on the true story of how his father assisted fellow athlete, Reg Spiers, to post himself from England to Australia back in the sixties. Out Of The Box is published by Roaring Forties Press, California, and Hachette, Australia. The book has featured on various international TV networks, including a world exclusive for TV3 NZ Campbell Live and Channel 7 Australia. In addition, the book has featured on multiple radio stations including the BBC, and attracted international newspaper coverage in The Telegraph, Daily Mail and Die Welt, to name a few. In their editorial review, The Sydney Morning Herald described Out Of The Box as, ‘Full of vivid detail and destined for the Big Screen’.
